Engineering News:

Swanscombe

Is the oldest Andrew Barclay in working order, and is currently undergoing a motion overhaul.

The locomotive has now been reassembled and only pipework remains to be finished.

It is planned to launch the locomotive into traffic on the 21st March 2010.

No.66

Work has started cleaning down the axleboxes and spring links etc, with work planned to start early in 2010.

The boiler repairs will be contracted out possibly during 2010.

New Engineering Facility

The building has now been cleared of the remaining equipment, and the old inner workshop demolished.

The old concrete floor has been removed and will be prepared for new concrete by our volunteers, although the concrete work will be contracted out.

The trees to the rear of the shed have been removed to allow the gutters and downpipes to be repaired.

Stove R Van

The Stove R has now had it's first corridor connection and end removed in October, this will give us access to the floor which has rotted in this area.

Iit is planned to completely refurbish this vehicle, and incorporate a disabled access facility, to enhance the visit to the Centre for our less mobile guests.

Volunteering in Engineering.

New members are always welcome and we carry out a wide variety of tasks on the locomotives, rolling stock and items of plant used at the centre.

The work is varied and interesting, but can be dirty.
